Dwarka Court Hoax Bomb Threat Traced to VPN, Police Launch Cyber Terrorism Probe

by Shelley

A day after receiving a hoax bomb threat, Delhi’s Dwarka court discovered that the sender had used a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to send the email, police said on Thursday. Authorities have registered a case under serious charges related to cyber terrorism and threats.

A team from the district’s cyber cell was tasked with investigating the incident. They reached out to the web-based email service to gather information about the sender.

According to police sources, the threatening email was sent at 3:11 a.m. on Wednesday to the official mailbox of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM). It was brought to her attention when the court opened in the morning. The email warned that “an RDX-based explosive device has been clandestinely planted at the Metropolitan Court, South West, Delhi.”

In response, Dwarka’s Cyber Police Station invoked Section 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for criminal intimidation and Section 66F of the IT Act, and an investigation is underway.

Upon receiving the alert, local police, senior officers, and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) immediately rushed to the court. They evacuated the building and conducted thorough checks using both manual searches and advanced equipment, including dog squads. The threat was later confirmed to be a hoax.

This incident follows a similar event last week, where bomb threats led to security checks at the Red Fort and Jama Masjid. In that case, a man from Karawal Nagar in northeast Delhi was arrested. He admitted to making the call while intoxicated.

Earlier this year, several schools also received bomb threat emails, raising concerns about similar incidents.
